TOPIC:  Gifts Gone Bad:  Fixing and Avoiding Problems with Restricted and Planned Gifts

Mistakes happen and circumstances change.  This can result in gifts that do not work as intended.  This presentation will provide a brief overview of donor-restricted gifts and estate gifts. Then participants will review case studies of actual “gifts gone bad” to develop solutions that will work for the donor and the organization. The presentation will also address the ethical considerations of working through problematic gifts. This will be an interactive, workshop-style session that will help you hone your skills in estate and donor-restricted gifts and give you tools to use when you experience a “gift gone bad.”

Our speaker, Keith Napolitano is Director of Gift Planning for the University of Nebraska Foundation. He works to cultivate and close planned gifts for all constituencies of the Foundation including the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, The University of Nebraska Medical Center, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and the University of Nebraska - Kearney. Keith is an attorney and previously practiced in the areas of exempt organizations, estate planning, and business transactions. He has an MBA from University of Wisconsin and JD from Cornell University.

This program will provide one hour of CFRE credit, pending approval.
